Cucumber Salad is heavily rooted in German cuisine with a dish known as Gurkensalat. Itโs a popular side dish that has made its way to America. While this dish originated in Germany, it has made its way all over the world, including German immigrants in the United States. There are several variations within Germany, and even more in the United States. This creamy version is a popular choice due to its simple ingredients and easy preparation.
What kind of cucumber should I use?
English cucumbers have more flavor and less seeds and are perfect for making cucumber salad. If you donโt have access to English cucumbers, you can use regular seedless cucumbers. Since they are smaller, you will need to double the amount that you use. We do not recommend using cucumbers with seeds in this recipe.
To Peel or Not to Peel
There is nothing harmful about the skin of a cucumber. In fact, it can be a great source of fiber and nutrients. If you don’t like cucumber skin, you can always take the time and effort to peel it. But for those who love it, just give your cucumber a quick rinse and get to slicing!
Fresh vs. Dried Dill:
Fresh dill is strongly preferred in this recipe as it has a better flavor. If you canโt find fresh dill or donโt have access, you can use dried dill, but you’ll need to use it in smaller amounts. 2-3 teaspoons of dried dill is all you’ll need.
Storage Instructions
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.ย

This was delicious ๐
Grandma (babcia) used to make this (polish cucumber salad). I make it for my kids. Tried yours just to see what you do different and itโs pretty much the same. I use apple cider vinegar and sometimes red wine vinegar. But I do think itโs too much sugar. I also added more salt and pepper. Itโs supposed to be something simple. I ingredients that compliment each other. Not supposed to be over seasoned by adding this or that. This is a good recipe Iโd say.
Cannot wait to get groceries!
Yummy ๐
This is a delicious for a Weight Watcher Member, like me!!! Love the creaminess of the dressing. I make it hours ahead of time and let the garlic flavor really marinate!!

Delicious โ but I added more white vinegar… about 6 tablespoons total….gave it a little more โzingโ!
Looks so great!!! Got to make some!!!
Love this recipe. Im going to add red onions to mine. One thing I do is dehydrate the cucumbers. I slice them the day before and put in a colander in the fridge. I add all the ingredients the next day and they cucumbers soak up the sour cream and vinegar.
Everyone enjoyed now have to pass it on thanks
