Ingredient Notes

  • Honey: Use any honey you have on hand. Ideally you’ll want to use a neutral honey like a generic clover or wildflower honey.
  • Crushed Red Pepper Flakes: These are the first layer of heat. f you want a milder version, feel free to use a little less.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar: This adds the perfect tang to balance out the sweetness.
  • Hot Sauce: This is where you can get creative! Frank’s, Cholula, or Valentina are good standard options to start. Feel free to use your favorite hot sauce and experiment with one of the many amazing and sometimes creative options out there!
  • Cayenne Pepper: The final layer of heat.

Flavor Variations

Hot Sauce: Experiment with different hot sauces to play with the flavor profiles and heat level to find your perfect combination.

Sweet and Smoky: For a hint of smoky flavor, add 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of chili powder.

Orange Hot Honey: Add a little orange zest or orange juice to your hot honey for a tangy twist.

How to Use It

Hot honey can be used as a condiment for almost anything! Seriously, I kind of want to put it on everything all the time. The two most common options you’ll see are to drizzle it over pizza or fried chicken but don’t stop there.

Hot honey is also great with cheese so you could serve it on a charcuterie board or drizzle it over a loaf of goat cheese or a wheel of baked brie.

Don’t limit yourself though. Drizzle honey over roasted vegetables and give them some sweet heat. Just think what a little hot honey could do to avocado toast!

One of my favorites is to combine peaches and burrata and drizzle hot honey over the top. It’s heaven!

Storage Instructions

Store the hot honey in a jar at room temperature for up to 3 months. If it crystallizes, simply reheat it on the stove over low heat until it returns to its liquid state.

Drizzle it on…
