I think too thin is a personal preference — I don’t like the bottled famous brand because it’s too thick and gloopy. If you like it thicker don’t add all of the buttermilk at one time…just add it slowly a bit at a time until it reaches the consistency you prefer.
I only have Miracle Whip. Can I sub that for the mayonnaise?
