Steak and potatoes go together like peanut butter and jelly, cookies and milk, spaghetti and meatballs, Superman and Lois Lane โ well, you get the idea. It is an irresistible pairing. What we donโt love is how long it takes to cook those potatoes, especially considering how quickly steak bites cook. Years ago we decided to try gnocchi instead of potatoes, and have never looked back. We are all about quick and easy weeknight meals, and this is one of our familyโs absolute favorites.

Ingredient Breakdown and Substitutes
- Beef: The star of the dish. We prefer using tenderloin for the most tender results, but you can also use sirloin, ribeye, or strip steak
- Lemon Juice: Freshly squeezed is best, but bottled works in a pinch.
- Gnocchi: Choose from store-bought or homemade. Gluten-free options are available for those with dietary restrictions.
- Parmesan Cheese: Grate it fresh for the best flavor. For a dairy-free option, consider using nutritional yeast.

Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness: 145ยฐF for medium-rare, 160ยฐF for medium, and 170ยฐF for well-done. The steak should be browned on the outside and at your preferred level of pinkness inside.
Yes, you can use frozen gnocchi. Cook it directly from frozen, following the package instructions; it might just take a minute or two longer than the dried variety.
Ensure your pan is well-heated and coated with a thin layer of oil or butter before adding the gnocchi. Stirring occasionally prevents sticking. If they still stick, your pan might be too hot, so try reducing the heat slightly.
There are several types of store-bought gnocchi, including traditional potato gnocchi, whole wheat for a healthier option, and gluten-free made from alternative flours. Some stores also carry flavored varieties, like spinach or pumpkin gnocchi.
Gnocchi is typically located in the pasta aisle of most grocery stores. You may find it either in dry, vacuum-packed forms or as a refrigerated product near fresh pastas and sauces.
Absolutely! If you have the time and inclination, homemade gnocchi can elevate the dish. Just follow yourย favorite gnocchi recipe.

Incredible
I’m doubling the recipe for 9 people. That’s 4 lb of gnocchi!!! That’s an awful lot of gnocchi isn’t it. If I make 2 lb of pasta with a meal that’s more than everyone eats.
We’ve found that this recipe is gobbled up by 4 adults.
So delicious, umami, comforting, amazingly easy. Would do less lemon juice next time other than that follow to a T.
This is our family obsession meal. They want it every week. Sometimes I add tomatoes.
I have made this several times. It is a fan favorite in our home especially when my husband likes his steak well done. This way it cooks evenly and thoroughly.
I made this a few days ago. Itโs great but dry were the comments I got. I butter fry gnocchi as thatโs how I was introduced to it, and everybody loves the crisp bite. Next time it was suggested I make a sauce or gravy.
Had this a few days ago at a friends place. Loved it except for being way over salted. I finally got the recipe! Leaving out the salt completely. Going to add broccoli and have a complete one pan meal.
I found the marinade to be too salty; Iโd reduce the salt by 1/4-1/2 next time since the Worcestershire is also salty.
However, this was still a hit with my husband, came together SO easily, and looks fancy despite being easy! Iโll definitely make it again and just reduce the salt, and possibly the lemon too.
made several recipes obtained from facebook. they are delicious. I am buying a cookbook.
I love this! My family loves it! Thanks !
