- Sweetened condensed milk ensures a creamy, smooth consistency without any grittiness.
- This fudge is made entirely in the microwave, offering the quickest method with minimal cleanup.
This is the ultimate classic fudge recipe, giving you the flexibility to customize the taste and texture. Add toppings or flavors to suit your taste or complement a special event. Perfect for satisfying a random fudge craving, making for the holidays, or preparing ahead for a bake sale, this fudge is easy, delicious, and creamy. Honestly, what more could you want in a fudge?
Ingredient Notes
- White Chocolate: We like to use high-quality white chocolate chips for the best flavor. You can also use vanilla melting wafers or vanilla almond bark.
- Sweetened Condensed Milk: This is the secret ingredient that adds sweetness and gives your fudge its smooth, creamy texture. Donโt skip it! Evaporated milk is not the same.
- Peanut Butter: Creamy peanut butter gives the perfect smooth texture, but if you prefer a little crunch, you can also use chunky peanut butter. DO NOT use a natural peanut butter in this recipe as results will vary. We recommend Jiff or Skippy.
- Vanilla Extract: Use pure vanilla extract for the best flavor.
Adding Nuts
You can use a chunky style of peanut butter in this recipe rather than the smooth style. Or you can also add 1/2 cup of roughly chopped peanuts into the fudge mixture just before pouring it into your pan to refrigerate.
Variations
This classic fudge recipe is a perfect base for adding your favorite flavors and mix-ins. Here are some ideas to get creative:
Flavor Extracts: Swap out or complement the vanilla extract with almond or chocolate extract. Use 1/2 teaspoon.
Nuts: Stir in 1/2 to 1 cup of chopped walnuts, pecans, pistachios, or almonds for crunch.
Marshmallows: Fold in mini marshmallows after stirring the fudge for a gooey twist.
Sprinkles: Top the fudge with colorful sprinkles for festive fun.
Microwaving Fudge
All ingredients can be combined directly in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high in 30-second increments, stirring in between. Avoid microwaving for too long or in longer periods, as this can cause the chocolate to burn and become grainy. The ingredients will continue to melt as you stir, so it’s best to stop and stir until only small lumps remain.
Storage Instructions
Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container preferably in a plastic storage container or a resealable plastic bag, but you can also wrap it in aluminum foil. It will stay good in the fridge for about 3 weeks.
We LOVE this easy to make fudge!! So creamy & smooth. I’ll be making this again & again. Thank you.
My mom made us peanut butter fudge as children. We’ve always searched for a duplicate. This is close, maybe even better. My search is over. This is delicious! Not to mention easy!
I made this delicious fudge in the microwave today and could not believe how quickly it came together. I was skeptical since I never made fudge in the microwave and I haven’t cooked anything in one year. I wanted something I would actually make at home. I fell last Thanksgiving eve and shattered my femur. I have spent the last year in the hospital, physical therapy hospital, and now a extended care facility. After many hurdles and pitfalls I am finally preparing to go home. Today I had PT watching me as I worked in their therapy kitchen. I could cook anything I wanted. I chose this fudge recipe because it was an easy place to start and I was then able to give it to the therapy girls in appreciation for all they have taught me. I had no recipes of my own here and had saved this recipe to make when I got home. I now know I will definitely be able to accomplish it for Christmas. You have made me very happy today. I wish you could see my face. I can’t stop smiling.
Bess, what a great story. I’m sorry for your misfortune but happy to read your story ended with a happy ending. It is now December 24, 2022, I hope you are all healed and doing well. Merry Christmas to you Bess.
