Classic Ham Salad has the perfect blend of salty, creamy, crunchy, and so much flavor! We love this as a dip served with crackers, and especially on a croissant sandwich.
We love these classic American recipes from the 50s. Just one bite and youโll be reminiscing over ham salad lunches with grandma on her back porch drinking sun tea. Honestly, we just love the simplicity in the ingredients and how easily this comes together. Some quick meals just arenโt as satisfying, but classic ham salad will not disappoint.
Ham Salad is extremely versatile. It is super popular served up as a dip with your favorite crackers or bread. However, there is nothing quite like a ham salad croissanโwich. If youโre looking for a healthier option, we love the additional crunch when made into a lettuce wrap.
Can I use leftover cooked ham?
Yes, this recipe is a great way to use up leftover cooked ham.
Can I use a food processor to blend this all together?
Definitely. If you like a smoother texture, go ahead and pulse all of this together in a food processor. If you like more of a crunch from the onion and relish, skip the processor and mix by hand.

Excellent! Made it for my husband as he likes ham salad. He loved the eggs in it. I also added a little jalapeno relish to spice it up for him. Great recipe!
I grew up on this. We always had it after Easter – with 6 kids to color eggs but not eat hard boiled ones, Mom had to do something with them, so we had lots of ham salad (leftover Easter dinner) and deviled eggs! No relish though….just made some day before yesterday – there’s only me to eat it now, so I make it with one of those small ham steaks….works!
I made your Ham salad and it was amazing. I grew up in a small town and our bakery use to make ham salad sandwiches. This ham salad rates right up there with theirs and that is a high compliment. I never would have thought of putting lemon juice in it but yum! Thanks for sharing!
We had this tonight on croissants and it rocked ! I’d never made ham salad before and now we’ll enjoy it more often .
My husband and kids loved it! It was so good I made it twice in one week. I loved the tangy flavor from the sweet pickles. Thanks for sharing!
I serve this instead of potato salad it is that good. The sweet pickle relish adds that extra zing and takes it to another level. I’m going to try adding pickle relish to potato salad, just an idea.
I always add pickle relish to my potatio salad, as well as chopped roasted red peppers and cucumbers, red and green bell peppers. Try adding slaw dressing to the mayo also!
I use sweet relish in my ham salad and dill relish in my potato salad. Just a thought!
I always use sweet pickle relish and sweet pickle juice to my potato and ham salad. It helps with moisture and flavor.
I always use sweet pickle relish in my potato salad. Not the same without it.
Just remembering that my uncle used to make great โhamโ salad. As I remember, it included just mayo or salad dressing (personal choice) and chopped green pepper. Believe it or not, he made it with Spam! Spam is rather disgusting, but it really makes a good ham salad.
Including chopped egg does not appeal to me. But I think the Dijon mustard sounds worth a try. Serve chilled.
I just made some without the eggs. I added onion, Dijon mustard & relish. I love it too.
I had not made ham salad in a long time. This recipe was delicious! Thanks for sharing.
