Why Our Recipe
- Enter a whole new world of Rice Krispie Treats by making your own candied bacon to add in.
- Sweet and savory treats that will be ready to eat in 45 minutes.
These are surprisingly quick to make in 45 minutes, and only about 20 minutes of that is hands-on time. And that includes making your own homemade maple candied bacon! These treats will have everyone reaching for seconds.
Ingredient Notes
- Maple Syrup: Real maple syrup is preferred here, but listen, you can totally get away with the pancake type of syrup.
- Brown Sugar: For caramelization.
- Thick-cut bacon: Using thick-cut bacon ensures a crisp texture that holds up well in the treats. Regular bacon can be used, but reduce the baking time to avoid overcooking.
- Rice Krispies Cereal: Any brand of crispy rice cereal will work here, so feel free to use your favorite.
- Unsalted Butter: Unsalted butter is preferred to control the amount of salt in the recipe, especially since the bacon already adds a savory touch.
- Mini Marshmallows: Mini marshmallows melt quickly and evenly. If you only have large marshmallows on hand, use about 40 regular-sized ones in place of the 4 cups of mini marshmallows.
Storage & Reheating Instructions
At Room Temperature: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Make sure the container is sealed tightly to keep them fresh and chewy.
Freezing: For longer storage, freeze the treats. Cut them into squares and place them in a single layer on a baking sheet. Freeze until solid, then transfer the squares to a resealable plastic freezer bag. Store frozen for up to 3 months. To enjoy, let them thaw at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes.
