How do I make sure I make 12 even sized pretzels?
Weigh the dough in ounces before dividing the dough. Divide the weight by 12. This will tell you how much each dough ball should weigh. As you are pinching dough off, weigh each one and add or remove dough as needed to keep them a similar size. You can also eyeball it, and keep them about the size of golf balls.

How hot of water do I need? Whatโs the best method for this?
The easiest option is to simply use the hottest water possible from the tap. It does not have to be boiling, but you do want it very hot. Other options are to microwave, boil on stove, or use an electric hot water kettle.

Are there any flavor variations I can make?
Yes, there are so many flavors that work well with pretzels! Cinnamon and sugar is a popular flavor. To make these, simply sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top after brushing the pretzels with melted butter. Another favorite is cheese pretzels. After dunking in the baking soda mixture, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top right before baking. You will not want to brush melted butter on top of any cheese pretzels, as you do not want the added grease.

Hi I have tried so many of your recipes and enjoyed every one of them. You are my go to chef when I want to try something new. I always make sure everyone knows where my recipe came from. I absolutely love how simple and delicious every recipe is. I have never had a fail.
I do have a question about the pretzel recipe though. What kind of yeast do you use in this recipe?
This recipe uses instant dry yeast.
These are the bomb!! Home recovering from total knee replacement and was looking for something easy and different to make ( never made pretzels) and these fit the bill!! The only thing I changed was I used bread flour. Came SO good!! Did melted butter and coarse salt to finish.
Amazing!!!! Can I freeze them and reheat??
This is what I’ve been looking for! I’ve tried making soft pretzels several times and they never taste anything like the mall’s. This recipe was so simple and so quick, but it tasted perfect! Slightly crispy outside, fluffy and a bit chewy. I used the popcorn butter oil brushed on top and pretzel salt. I will definitely make these again!
I just tried the recipe. My oven runs hotter than Rachel’s so my first batch were quite brown. My second batch was more golden like hers. Crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Yum! My husband said he could sure eat quite a few. High praise from him. Next time I’m going to make my pretzels big, like at a county fair. Wish me luck. Usually the kitchen hates me
I made them, and they were very good. My problem was they stuck to the baking dish. Did I not grease it enough? Can I use parchment paper and grease that before baking? So I had pretzels without bottoms. Oh and sticky, I couldnโt roll them out. First time pretzel maker.
Simple and delicious. It’s hard to find pretzels in NZ so grateful I’ve found an easy recipe to make at home
Lordy, the Universe did me a real solid by not allowing me to discover this gem of a recipe until after lockdown was lifted. This is the perfect antidote for when those soft pretzel cravings kick in. No kidding. I’m never going to the mall again!!! Thank you!
QUICK QUESTION: Has anyone had any luck making (and storing) the dough in advance? Any tips are appreciated.
This is an excellent, extremely easy recipe. I followed directions and they were delicious and finished to perfection in an hour.
I sprinkled mine with Everything Bagel seasoning. Thank you!
These are awesome! Iโve made them twice in the last week
