Best Homemade Orange Rolls are sticky, lush, and doughy. Theyโre easy to make , fluffy and frosted in a delicious orange cream cheese glaze.
Can I make Orange Rolls without a stand mixer?
You can knead the dough by hand! Start out by stirring with a spoon until you canโt do it anymore. Then knead by hand. Just keep on kneading until all the flour is incorporated and/or the dough is soft to the touch and only slightly sticky. Itโs a bit of a workout, but itโs worth it!
Butter Tip:
The butter should be room temperature and smoosh easily to the touch. If you soften the butter in a microwave, be sure to work in small increments of time so you donโt get any melted pools of butter.
Milk Temperature:
The milk should be warm to the touch (between 100 and 110 degrees). You can use 1% up to whole milk. Iโll never recommend using skim milk for anything.
Can the salt be reduced for a low sodium diet?
Reducing the salt will not affect the rising. The only thing it will impact is flavor. You can also swap out the salted butter for unsalted to reduce the sodium content even more.
Are orange rolls vegetarian?
Yes, these rolls are vegetarian but they arenโt vegan.
How much flour should I use?
The amount of flour you use when making bread doughs can vary so it is best to go by how the dough feels. The dough should be slightly sticky, but still very soft and pliable. It should just barely not be sticking to the bowl. If you add too much flour and the dough stiffens, your rolls will also get a little stiff. You can feel a soft roll just by touching the dough. Start with less flour, as you can always add more as necessary.
Gluten-Free Instructions:
This recipe can be made gluten-free by using a gluten-free flour blend that is meant to be a directed substitute for all-purpose flour. โCup for Cupโ is an example of a flour blend that will work. Results may vary based on the blend you choose to use.
Make Ahead Instructions:
Orange rolls can easily be made ahead. For best results, choose one of the following two methods:
OVERNIGHT INSTRUCTIONS: After youโve rolled and cut your orange rolls and placed them into your lightly greased baking pan, cover with plastic wrap and place in your refrigerator. The next day, remove them from the fridge and allow them to come to room temperature (about 45 minutes to an hour depending on the temperature of your house) before baking.
FREEZER INSTRUCTIONS: Roll and cut your cinnamon rolls and place them several inches apart on a baking sheet to freeze rolls individually. Once frozen, transfer to a resealable plastic freezer bag. When ready to bake, place in a lightly greased baking dish and allow to come to room temperature before baking.
Storage Instructions:
Due to the cream cheese glaze, you will want to store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

These are fantastic. Beautifully caramelized and full of lovely orange flavor. Hit it hard with all the zest you can possibly fit in there. The glaze is the perfect complement to the yeasty dough. I will surely make this again!
Love these orange rolls! I always make these and The Stay at Home Chef Cinnamon Rolls together for events. Everyone seems to love them as they always ask for more. Kids and adults alike will enjoy these rolls. I use the active dry yeast when making; warm milk, yeast, sugar, and let sit for 12 minutes. They always turn out great!
My family and I had a favorite Italian Restaurant. Because of Covid 19 they had to close down. I was devastated because I am a huge fan of Spaghetti Carbonara and they made the best. I tried a couple of recipes only to be disappointed until I found your recipe. It is the closest one I found, the only difference was it didn’t have italian sausage in the recipe. Now I make this dish with sausage and I couldn’t be happier. Thank you for your wonderful recipes!
Loved it! Made it over night and it made for a great coffee pastry! Yum!
Good stuff!
I loved making cinnamon rolls last fall, and then got curious about Orange Rolls…but didn’t have a recipe. Yours sounded so good, I had to try it! No need to look any further~ these were a hit with my husband and he gave some to his fisherman friend. Yay! So glad I found this site!
These were amazing! The dough was so fluffy. I ended up making the orange recipe and a Rugelach version. So good!!! Thank you โค๏ธ
Made these awesome rolls today! Easy, Fabulous, Delicious! should I go on? Can’t wait to try the Cinnamon Rolls.
These are amazing! Didn’t change a thing except I left out the orange extract but it still tasted so good
Since orange and cinnamon together are *chef kiss,* I followed one of the previous comments and added two teaspoons of cinnamon to the filling โ great addition!
Other adjustments: I left out the orange extract from the frosting and instead added another tablespoon of orange zest and half a teaspoon vanilla extract. I also sprinkled cardamom on top and it was wonderful! I think Iโll add a teaspoon of cardamom to the filling next time too.
In short, these are lovely, fluffy buns that embrace whatever personal adjustments you make to them.
