Best Homemade Orange Rolls are sticky, lush, and doughy. Theyโre easy to make , fluffy and frosted in a delicious orange cream cheese glaze.
Can I make Orange Rolls without a stand mixer?
You can knead the dough by hand! Start out by stirring with a spoon until you canโt do it anymore. Then knead by hand. Just keep on kneading until all the flour is incorporated and/or the dough is soft to the touch and only slightly sticky. Itโs a bit of a workout, but itโs worth it!
Butter Tip:
The butter should be room temperature and smoosh easily to the touch. If you soften the butter in a microwave, be sure to work in small increments of time so you donโt get any melted pools of butter.
Milk Temperature:
The milk should be warm to the touch (between 100 and 110 degrees). You can use 1% up to whole milk. Iโll never recommend using skim milk for anything.
Can the salt be reduced for a low sodium diet?
Reducing the salt will not affect the rising. The only thing it will impact is flavor. You can also swap out the salted butter for unsalted to reduce the sodium content even more.
Are orange rolls vegetarian?
Yes, these rolls are vegetarian but they arenโt vegan.
How much flour should I use?
The amount of flour you use when making bread doughs can vary so it is best to go by how the dough feels. The dough should be slightly sticky, but still very soft and pliable. It should just barely not be sticking to the bowl. If you add too much flour and the dough stiffens, your rolls will also get a little stiff. You can feel a soft roll just by touching the dough. Start with less flour, as you can always add more as necessary.
Gluten-Free Instructions:
This recipe can be made gluten-free by using a gluten-free flour blend that is meant to be a directed substitute for all-purpose flour. โCup for Cupโ is an example of a flour blend that will work. Results may vary based on the blend you choose to use.
Make Ahead Instructions:
Orange rolls can easily be made ahead. For best results, choose one of the following two methods:
OVERNIGHT INSTRUCTIONS: After youโve rolled and cut your orange rolls and placed them into your lightly greased baking pan, cover with plastic wrap and place in your refrigerator. The next day, remove them from the fridge and allow them to come to room temperature (about 45 minutes to an hour depending on the temperature of your house) before baking.
FREEZER INSTRUCTIONS: Roll and cut your cinnamon rolls and place them several inches apart on a baking sheet to freeze rolls individually. Once frozen, transfer to a resealable plastic freezer bag. When ready to bake, place in a lightly greased baking dish and allow to come to room temperature before baking.
Storage Instructions:
Due to the cream cheese glaze, you will want to store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Great recipe. Yes use 1/2 sugar if necessary as it is a very sweet dessert.. Definitely a new twist instead of making cinnamon buns…
Just made these and they are absolutely fabulous!! Made the recipe exactly as is and my husband and I are in orange roll heaven. Definitely making again!
Dough was so nice! So sweet though! Will make again but add half sugar to filling.
Really great for Easter morning. Very kid friendly. One more way to be the best Grandma ever. If you are a citrus fan double the orange zest.
I’ve made these several times and is the best I’ve tried. Most sweet dough get a little dry, but these are moist and delicious!!! Thank you for this great recipe!!!!

Made these for my wife. I was worried the sugar in the filling would make them grainy. Weโre not at all! When I made the glaze I tasted it and added some real vanilla to it too. More orange cream glaze. It was excellent! Thanks for the recipe! Iโll use this many more times I am sure!
Was snowed in today and decided to give this recipe a try. Excellent! I havenโt made anything with yeast for a long time. Easy and very good! Thanks for the recipe.
Goodness, I made these today because we thought we had a container of the crack open orange rolls, but did not! They turned out so good and look just like the picture. My son and I would choose these over the crack opens my husband does not like orange zest. You will become spoiled real soon after these; great recipe, thanks!
Do NOT make these rolls for your family. I did and havenโt stopped making them for 2 days! โMom, how much do you love me? My friend really wants to try themโ. โHey, these would be a great addition to the company Christmas dinner.โ โNanna, can i take some home?โ Lol
The only change I made was to substitute xlyatol for the sugar in the filing and the glaze and used 1/2 the suggested amount to save on the sugar high.
These are delicious and i am beginning to think my family will not be letting me out of the Orange roll making business anytime soon.
