This Spicy Maple Candied Bacon takes glorious bacon and makes it even better. Use it in soups, salads, sandwiches, desserts and more!
Bacon is good stuff by itself. Add a little heat and some sugar and wowzers, you’ve got yourself bacon nirvana! This candied bacon is sure to impress and totally simple to make. It transforms the delicious bacon strips into this sweet and salty candy with a nice slight chew. The slight heat leaves your taste buds craving more. Really, it is just ridiculously good.
It could be served plain or incorporated into almost any dish where you’d use regular bacon. Trust me, it’ll take the whole thing up a notch. Salads, appetizers, soups, breakfast items, and more. You can also incorporate it into desserts. The possibilities really are endless! One of the most popular uses of it on my website is with my BLT Deviled Eggs. I’m telling you, it really takes it up a notch. This really is a must make recipe. It could very well change the way you eat bacon forever!
What does it mean to candy something? You see it all the time on cooking shows and such. It is really quite simple. It just means that you are coating something in some sort of sugar. Usually you’d be melting the sugar first which should be done low and slow as to not burn. The above recipe dissolves the sugar into the maple syrup and melts during the baking process.
Watch the video where I walk you through this recipe step by step and give you extra tips and tricks. I have an entire cooking show on YouTube where I share recipes three times a week. Be sure to check it out and subscribe.
If i make it in advance how long can i store it
It stays good for about 7 to 10 days.
Put the bacon on a cooling rack . Then on the baking sheet. The grease drips off and you can do away with mos of the drying part then. ๐
I bet the drippings would make a fabulous gravy to use the next morning for biscuits and gravy!!
I bet it would too. It would probably make an even better Vineagrette for something like Wilted Lettuce or Wilted Watercress.
Thank you! It seemed weird to me to lay it flat in the pan–it would be drowning in it’s own fat. Taking it out of the oven when it’s finished wasn’t shown in the video.
OMG! This was perfect on my thick peppered bacon! FABULOUS!
Can you cook the bacon low and slow in a cast iron pan?
Should work!
This is fabulous! I took it to a work pot luck, and I got about 50 emails asking for the recipe! The next pot luck is sundae toppings – candied bacon. I am just not sure – cayenne pepper, blacked crapped pepper or nothing savory? Any suggestions?
crapped=cracked. I am so humiliated about that mistake! I also wasn’t clear on my question – should I skip the savory elements if I am using it for a sweet dessert?
Yes. Savory. A bit of cayenne pepper and bacon on whipped cream ! Who could ask for more. Sounds strictly American: doesn’t it ?
Such indulgence !
It does sound strictly American… I’m an Aussie and just can’t get my head around some of American food combos… even Pumpkin Pie sounds “different” to me, let alone bacon as a sweet dessert…!! I will try this though as I think it would be sensational in devilled eggs.
I am an American I felt the same way when I s tatted seeing pumpkin not in pie. Have tried some great recipes though. If you can get the ingredients in beautiful Australia please try pumpkin pie, it really is great, donโt forget the whipped cream.
i am using this recipe to make salted maple bacon truffles and im an aussie 2 cant wait hope it works out well
I’ve dipped the horizontal edge of candied bacon after it has cooled into melted milk and white chocolate. That’d work as a great ice cream topping or garnish.
How should I store maple candied bacon?
In your mouth.
Or, I just put it in an airtight container (tupperware or plastic bag) in the fridge.
Had Candied Bacon for the first time at Bob Evans
in Johnson City Tn, I could not stop eating it ! I have to learn how to make it !
Where could you buy Candied Bacon – do they sell it?
Canadian Bacon is made from ham. It is sold in most American grocery stores near the pepperoni.
I don’t know where you live but there is a restaurant called Haze Smokehouse and LaSalle Illinois. I was there for the first time a couple weeks ago and had their candied bacon. It was absolutely delicious. I live about a hundred miles away from there and thought about going back for more but I decided to try to make it at home instead. This recipe is great! I have made it with and without the Cayenne. Really good both ways.
YOU COULD USED 1/ 2 TSPONE OF SMOKEPAPRIEA OR SPLITED THE TWO
A Silpat mat works great for this. Also, I just read a recipe for candied bacon homemade ice cream! Got to try that!
