Cook the 1 pound linguine pasta in a large pot of lightly salted boiling water according to package directions. Before draining, reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water and set aside.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt 4 tablespoons salted butter and add 2 tablespoons olive oil. Stir in 1 tablespoon minced garlic and 1 pound raw shrimp. Season with 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes. Cook, stirring continuously, until shrimp turn pink, about 2-3 minutes.
Add 1/4 cup lemon juice and 1 tablespoon lemon zest. Simmer for 1 minute, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.
