In a mixing bowl, gently knead together 1 pound ground beef, 1 large egg, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon black pepper, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon onion powder. Be careful not to overwork the meat.
Form into 4 patties, roughly 1/2 inch thick. Press your thumb down on the middle to give it a slight indent.
Set smoker temperature to 225 degrees F and place burgers directly on the well oiled grate.
Let the burgers smoke for about 1 hour until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees F. No need to flip them
Once the burger is finished cooking, remove and use your patties to assemble a delicious burger on a bun of your choice with all your favorite toppings.

Notes
If you are using a leaner beef than 80/20, add in some additional fat to it. A tablespoon of shredded cheese or softened butter. Add in additional items like finely chopped jalapenos, green chiles, bacon bits, minced fresh garlic. Hickory, cherry, pecan and oak are my preferred wood flavors for smoking a burger.
