  • 1 to 2 large heads broccoli cut into florets
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice


  • Heat a large heavy skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Pour in olive oil to coat the bottom of the skillet. Place broccoli florets into a single layer in the skillet. Season with salt. Cook without stirring 5 minutes, until broccoli is browned on the bottom.
  • Stir broccoli and let cook again, undisturbed, for 4 to 5 minutes until the other side is browned and broccoli is tender crisp.
  • Sprinkle in cheese and let melt and bubble and brown. Turn off heat. Sprinkle with red pepper flakes and drizzle with lemon juice just before serving.
