Learn all the secrets for How to Make Applesauce. Can it, freeze it -- leave it unsweetened, or add in some extras to sweeten things up. You'll only need one recipe to teach you everything you need to know!
Peel, core, and slice apples into small chunks. Transfer to a large saucepan or pot.
Add in water, lemon juice, and cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil over high heat and then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let simmer 20-30 minutes until apples are soft.
Puree using a blender, food processor, or immersion blender for a smoother applesauce.
OPTIONAL ADD INS
For sweetened applesauce, return pureed applesauce to pan. Stir in brown sugar and continue to cook, uncovered, until the applesauce thickens, about 10 minutes.
For a more flavorful, dessert type applesauce, stir in butter, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract until butter is melted.
SERVING AND STORAGE
Serve warm or cold, or freeze or can using proper canning procedures for later use. Applesauce will stay good refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
