Enjoy beer braised bratwurst and onions for a backyard barbecue, Oktoberfest celebration, or a quick and delicious dinner. These perfect brats are browned and braised in beer, sautéed in onions, and are oh so flavorful!
Heat half the cooking oil in a heavy-bottom skillet over medium-high heat. Add the bratwurst and cook until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
Add the remaining cooking oil and onions to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper, cooking for 7-8 minutes until the onions soften and turn golden.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for one minute.
Pour in the beer and return the bratwurst to the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer for 8-10 minutes until the onion mixture thickens and the bratwurst are fully cooked.
Serve the bratwurst on toasted buns, topped with stone-ground mustard.

Grill Method:
Preheat grill and then place brats on grate and brown on both sides. While the brats are browning, in a grill safe skillet or dutch oven, melt butter and cook onions. Add in salt and pepper. When the onions become softened and more golden, add in the garlic. Let that cook for about 1 minute before adding in the beer. Simmer and then add in brats and let cook for 10 minutes in the beer and onions, or until ready to serve.
